Benjamin Patrick Young, MD, is an interventional pulmonologist at University Hospitals Respiratory Health Institute. Dr. Young serves as Medical Director, Bronchoscopy, at UH Cleveland Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (Cleveland, Ohio).

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine from Pennsylvania State University in 2000, Dr. Young obtained his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2004. Dr. Young’s medical training at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine also included an internship in Accelerated Internal Medicine (2003 – 2004), a residency in Accelerated Internal Medicine (2004 – 2006) and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (2007 – 2010).

Dr. Young worked as a hospitalist at Lake Hospital System (Willoughby, Ohio) from 2006 to 2007. From 2010 to 2013, he served as a pulmonary and critical care medicine attending physician at UH Cleveland Medical Center, after which he spent four years at Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, Ohio). While at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Young served as a staff physician and completed a fellowship in interventional pulmonary medicine. He returned to UH Respiratory Health Institute in 2017, where he has served as an interventional pulmonologist since August 2017, Associate Clinical Chief since May 2020 and a senior attending physician since July 2022.

Dr. Young is licensed or certified with the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians and American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. Among other awards and honors, Dr. Young is the recipient of a “Best Doctor” honor from Cleveland Magazine in 2023; Distinguished Physician, Class of 2022, UH; Chief Fellow, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, UH Case Medical Center (2009 – 2010); and Resident Teaching Award, Department of Medicine, UH (2005 – 2006).

Dr. Young has published research in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Cancer Cytopathology, Transplantation, Practical Radiation Oncology, Radiology Case Reports, Journal of Thoracic Disease, Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging and Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology. He has also published numerous posters and abstracts for research findings presented at meetings of the American Thoracic Society International Conference, American Thoracic Society, CHEST, and International Society of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy, among others.

Since he began practicing medicine, Dr. Young has presented and lectured at UH Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center and elsewhere on such pulmonology-related topics as pleural disease; bronchoscopy; medical therapies for advance stage emphysema; airway stents; bronchial thermoplasty; hemorrhagic shock; oncologic emergencies; and lung cancer screening, diagnosis and staging.
